Retort pouch is made of a flexible type of metal plastic laminate which is capable to withstand thermal processing for sterilization. Foodis first prepared, even raw or cooked, and sealed to the retort pouch. The pouch will be heated to 240-250°F (116- 121°C) for a few moments under underhand, inside retort or autoclave machines. The foodstuff inside is cooked, just like pressure cooking. This process reliably kills all commonly occurring microorganisms (particularly Clostridium botulinum), preventing it from spoiling. The packaging process is very much like canning, with the exception that the package itself is flexible. The lamination structure doesn't allow permeation of gases externally into the pouch. The retort pouch construction varies from application to application, to be a liquid product needs different barrier properties when compared to a dry product, similarly an acidic product needs different chemical resistance compared to a basic product. Some different plastic layers employed in retort pouches:
* Polyester PET offers a gloss and rigid layer, may be printed inside.
* Nylon Bi Oriented Polyamide, provides puncture resistance.
* Aluminum Al Provides a very thin but effective gas barrier.
* Food-grade cast polypropylene or CPP is needed because the sealing layer.
* Polyethylene (PE) can be used as an alternative to PP as being a sealing and bonding layer.
This multi layer structure prevents the retort pouch from being recycled into other retort pouches or food packaging. However this fabric can be recycled into an aluminized resin or up cycled into textile materials. The load of any pouch is lighter than regular cans or bottles, plus the energy necessary to produce each pouch is a lot less than competing packaging from metals, paper, and glass.
To reduce consumer inconvenience, the microwavable pouch has a computerized opening system during the microwave process. You don't have to go out of open any kind in the microwavable pouch/film before heating in the microwave. The microwavable retort pouch/film will quickly self vent inside the microwave in the event the food, packed from the microwavable retort pouch/film, is put within the microwave and starts to warm up.
The microwavable self-venting feature is given to the retort and pasteurization products.
The microwavable pouch/film has undergone matt treatment for appearance and offer high barrier features.
